i contacted them about doing a gig, but was told that i couldnt use it after 9pm, there could be no amplified sound, no smoking, drinking and no selling tickets. other than that im all set! dont know why a theatre company doesnt used it though.

so unless you are having an accoustic set from a bunch of born again christians who are reformed smokers and recovering alcoholics who dont want a late night out, its kinda pointless considering the sort of event i'm guessing you'd want to have....

it is a wonderful place though.

I took a few people there during Europex, it was an open day... The place is really nice! they even made historical brochures that you can get by the door inside...

If you get a chance - go see it!

I don't know how new this is, as i haven't been around much last few weeks, but Mitchell's Amusements have stopped displaying the tatty crap/crappy tat that they offer as prizes in their window, and have set up a rather amateur, but nonetheless worthy of note, display of Panopticon memorabilia. This includes (Ronnie!) a photograph of the Queen of the Gypsies. Unfortunately I don't think it is the same one that is buried in the Necropolis though.

Don't forget to look if you find yourself wandering down the Trongate.

What went wrong with the HG Early Warning System?

Unless I've missed it, there weren't any posts in here about a significant happening in the Panopticon:

Although still undergoing a restoration programme costing £14 million, the Panopticon Theatre in Glasgow's Trongate held its first production this week after closing in 1938. An audience of 80 were able to step back in time and see "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" in Britain's oldest surviving music hall. Originally the Britannia Music Hall, it opened in 1857 but closed in 1903. Three years later it opened as the Britannia Theatre of Varieties and Panopticon. British-born Stan Laurel first took to the stage there in 1910 and Archie Leach performed as part of a troupe of tumblers - before changing his name to Cary Grant.
