Jimmy Reid Memorial Lecture Thurs 10 Oct 2013

Postby The Egg Man » Wed Oct 02, 2013 4:02 pm

The second Annual Jimmy Reid Memorial Lecture will be given by Len McCluskey, General Secretary of Unite and one of the leading figures in the British trade union movement. It will take place in Govan Old Parish Church, in the capital of Scotland’s shipbuilding heritage, on the evening of Thursday 10 October 2013.

The title of the lecture is We Are Not Rats: the role of workers and trade unions in politics. The title is taken from the famous line in Jimmy Reid’s rectorial address, but in the context of the often hostile debate taking place on the role of trade unions and workers in British politics it is also a reference to the negativity directed at workers and their representative organisations.
