Creeping Spleen,

We were clearing out a relatives home several years ago.
The lady in question had a few fur coats. Her husband had been in a good job and they never had any family.
We weren't sure what to do with them and in the end we took them to an auction place in Glasgow.
They didn't make huge amounts of money but maybe someone got to wear them.

Perhaps a charity shop might be another option.

Hmmm, I dunno. "People" can be weird about stuff. I'll look into it.

But as for her clothes and whatnot, the local charity shops are gonna love us.

The Creeping Spleen wrote:Her fur coat - which I believe was an anniversary present from dad back when they were first married - is going to be problematic. No one wears fur any more after all.

We sold my mother-in-laws fur coats to the Vintage Shop in Byres Road - didn't get a huge amount for them, but it was better than chucking them out.
The Vintage Shop isn't there now, but might be worth trying somewhere similar?

Like I say, I'll look into it.

Right. New annoyance.

People who ask stupid bloody questions.

Yesterday evening, my brother phones asking me if I'm at home - which I was, but that's not the point - he needs me to go to the bank on Monday and have a word with them about mum's accounts while he's in a meeting with the lawyers.
Fair enough, I'll do that.

But where else would I be on a Saturday night?
I've no friends locally, the pubs are shut (I'm not a heavy drinker anyway), the cinemas likewise (not that there's any films worth watching), it's dark and cold outside, and there's stupid wee arseholes setting off fireworks left right and center.

Is it an "extrovert vs. introvert" thing? I'm perfectly happy sitting on my arse in the hoose where it's warm and there's a telly.

Aye, but you COULD have been on a razzle up a close and it COULD have been your landline he called
But I take your point. Some people don't put their brain in gear before opening their mouths.

"On a razzle up a close" quoth he.

Aye, right enough. Chance would be a fine think. ;)

Is this a winching reference, how rude!

My Faither found a condom in my anorak when I was 15, he sat me down and told me that he started smoking at 12, drinking at 14, gambling at 15 and winching women at 16, he drifted off then and requalified his statement by saying “well it was anyone of those things at anyone of those ages” and that was it conversation over...............I think the codon eventually went past its sell by date UNUSED!

Can anyone explain what is meant by non essential shops when they talk about shops closing during Covid19.
At the moment in N.Ireland non essential shops are supposed to be closed.
I thought that meant that shops like supermarkets and chemists would stay open but other places would shut.
I think some people surprised that IKEA remains open but they say it's because they stock building supplies, homeware and hardware.

Aye, homeware is apparently classed as 'essential supplies'. It seems a bit of a loophole for some shops - there's one in Byres Road that defies categorisation and sells anything from handbags to wall hangings, but because they have a few 'homeware' items, are allowed to stay open.

I have only been in said emporium once and left without buying anything because I couldn't figure out what sort of shop it was supposed to be. I'm easily confused. 8O
