::): amusing result, thanks Seamy.

I have to admit I was wondering how the great Belgian crime wave had been missed by everyone!

The reason why Belgian is 2nd recorded nationality after British?

It's a result of Belgian being next to British on the pull down menu used when prison officers logged in new inmates and so was wrongly entered onto their database.

Got to this thread by searching for 'Typewriter'

I am looking to get my hands on a manual typewriter, specifically the typebars with the actual type letters on them. I don't want proper antique ones, as I don't want to ruin them (will be using the letters in a fairly destructive manner) for an experiment, but am willing to buy a set or a cheap typewriter to get them.

Other than eBay/gumtree etc anyone know anywhere something like this might be got? I have checked modern stationery stores and they do a daisy wheel which might be good, but would like the original type.

Have a search on Facebook for Glasgow for sale, free and wanted. (that sort of thing) perhaps someone will have appropriate links? Or freecycle. Its the sort of thing some people might have in an attic if you are luck

Freecycle - excellent idea thanks! I will get on that as soon as possible.

Facebook, sadly (not sadly) is not a feature I am familiar with, but will keep it in mind if freecycle doesnt produce any typewriter shaped fruit.

Cheers

Did anyone manage to go for a wee nosey round the old Renfield Odeon between it closing and it being pulled down?
Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

What was the name of the organisations and places that provided free holidays for poor families from Glasgow in the 50's/60's?

Was it not something to do with Barnardos?

Nope can't find it under either of those suggestions.
It wasn't a residential school, think it was either the Co-op or some religious organisation.

I do remember it was in a large house in N Berwick and also one in Dunoon.

I used to go on holiday to North Berwick when I was a kid. Don't recall anything like that.

But I'll ask my mother, she knows these kind of things.

Youngest daughter has put her Nikon Coolpix camera through the washing machine.
I have rescued the memory card and it works okay, so have retrieved her 300+ holiday pictures, but the camera itself isn't well!
It's a rechargeable one and now its dry, I can plug it in to recharge and the power button will light up, but nothing else happens. Any suggestions, or do I just consign it to the recycle bin?

How dry is it really though? A tip I saw recently was to place the drenched electrical item (in that case, a mobile phone) in a plastic bag with a load of rice, and seal it up. Apparently it can work wonders with phones - no reason it shouldn't work with a camera if it isn't too far gone.

Best of luck.
