I have to admit, I'm curious as to how a Frenchman - Cpl. "Froggy" Chaffour - ended up serving with the Marines.

He may be French Canadian.

Sounds fair enough.

The Opening Ceremony of 'those' Games....

Was that the best they could do? Karen Dunbar and John 'Pretendy Scot' Barrowman...

Thank God I didn't buy any tickets for any event...

Only caught a bit of it myself, but where the hell are these "Turks and Caicos Islands"? I've never heard of them before.

Are they one of these wee obscure places that only exists on alternate days of the week as a tax dodge?

Watched a bit of the Opening Ceremony. 'Open the file marked 'Cliche,' we're going to need everything!' I quit halfway through Barrowman and entertained myself watching the reaction to the ceremony on Facebook, which was hilarious.

But it was cool to have the Red Arrows flying past my window!

He gets the job, and I got a knockback? Tell me how that's fair.

Glasgow 2014 got something right then.

Sharon,
I recently went back to a place in Duke Street where I was a lodger for three years in the late 1960's, just to walk up the close and see what it is like now. The main thing I noticed right away was that the steps leading up to each landing were well worn down - much more so than when I was there. I could hardly believe how those stone steps had worn down so bad in 45 years. It did make the tenements seem as though they are past their sell-by date.

I didn't notice that program was on and missed it. Wish I had seen it.

I worked in Melbourne Street next to the Meat Market for 13 years, and lived in other places in Dennistoun, so I knew the place quite well away back then. I especially liked the Rendezvous ice cream cafe.

New *Must See* Telly {for internet perusal only, I'm afraid, as it's not available over this side of the pond - given the content at referendum time, it may be obvious why.}

"Outlander" - A sort of back to the future, set in 1600's Highlands Scotland, replete with much sex and violence as well as a liberal dash of hocery pocery and witchycraft

Lots of gruff Highlanders, nasty Kings soldiers and a woman yanked from the late 1940's and deposited very much out of her time and her depth.

Recommended .. {Not to be confused with the movie of the same name, which is also good btw, but nothing to do with this}

Oh, have you seen it? I've noticed a few friends mentioning it on FB and saying it was good - would appear the books are addictive. Though thought it was only a pilot episode just now?
