It strted in Blackburn in darkest West Lothian. But Glasgow got the blame. You can deep fry most things including Ice cream.

Here's a recipe

I've never tried one myself but I have seen a friend, who would normally eat anything, throw one away after 1 bite after paying 2 quid for it. If he doesn't like it I sure as hell doubt I would, but I wouldn't mind trying. Not seen it advertised anywhere since though.

King's Cafe in Elmbank Street sells them I believe.

And it's a good excuse to link to I Like's excellent website.

On a similar 'healthy Glasgow' theme - anyone remember the sweeties and crisps vodka they used to sell in Chicago Meatpackers. They would liquidise mars bars, smarties, snickers, bounties etc. and mix in vodka. You just sauntered up to the bar and made your choice.

I once got the cheese 'n onion crisps vodka - the drink was full of wee tiny bits of crisps floaters and had a distinctly cheese 'n onion flavour.

I remember the upstairs bar in Curlers had a vodka bar at one point and had all the flavoured voddies, Kola Cube was by far the best of the bunch

My ex faltmates were from Denamrk, when we went to Glasgow for the day they walked all over and tried about a half dozen chippies for a deep fried Mars Bar.

I must say I was more than mildly embarassed at some points!
They even went as far as to buy there own Mars Bar then ask the guys at the chippies to deep fry them!

They left unsuccessful.

I mocked them, then laughed. :)

Was in a chippy in Toryglen and the two wummin in front of me asked for a 'crispy pizza'. This turned out to be one of the deep fried variety although covered in batter. When asked if she'd like salt and vinegar, her pal said not to get the salt as it's bad for your heart. :)
