Henrysix,

I am like you with regards to people borrowing things like a stapler, highlighter or scissors.
Most people in the office have their own stuff but sometimes people borrow them from time to time.

What I don't like is people who help themselves to large quantities of other peoples supplies of coffee, milk etc.
A man who had a big jar of coffee went on leave and accidentally left it lying about.
He was more than a little shocked to come back to find about two teaspoons left.
That mistake was never made again and jar got locked away at end of a day.

I would happily supply someone with tea or coffee if I had some left though I think it's nice to be asked rather than someone just helping themselves.
I leave a small number of coffee sachets out for the hybrid workers who only come in every so often and sometimes forget to
bring supplies.

Dot I do understand your frustration, can you pinpoint it to individuals, it’s a bit like students living in a house they just chance their arm, anyway I’m not a coffee drinker but when I lived in the Toon I used to love my coffee buns they were the size of dinner plates!

It's the principle of the thing though.
I bought the stuff with my own money (because we keep almost running out), therfore am I not effectively contributing something back to the workplace?

But heaven help them if they take stuff from my wee stash of sweeties!

Spleen i understand, I would willingly give you my just tea bag, milk, biscuits if you needed it, it’s a different culture at work nowadays, I’m not saying it’s right but it is shat it is, would you really get the arse with someone, causing a scene just for pencils, coffee or sweets, I wouldn’t.

Is there an opportunity for you to lock your stuff away?

Now what sweets are we chunteging on about, Kola cubes, Pineapple Chunks or aniseed twists!

I've got a locker, but I've never used it. If I don't want to miss my bus home, I've got to be out the door quick smart and walk down that damn great hill.
Putting stuff in my locker would just take up time.

Sweeties - I've usually got a bag of Fruit Pastilles on the go, maybe a macaroon bar, some tablet or some fudge.

Macaroon bars are just the ticket.
I couldn't tell you last time I saw one though.

There was a great wee shop in Belfast would have kept all kinds of sweets but sadly although it was a popular spot they closed down. I think maybe been a result of pandemic and perhaps a drop in footfall with many people working from home until more recent times.

They kept everything from McCowan's Spearmint chews, Walkers toffee bars which were hard to break into pieces and other things which you probably be lucky to get anywhere except maybe Amazon.

If you're after a macaroon bar, Dot, the wee Premier store (formerly a Spar) in Renfield Street has them at the counter along with tablet, fudge, and Chelsea Whoppers. :)

Henrysix, I had to Google the 'Chelsea Whopper' so I think it is a soft fudge covered in chocolate but we will get Spleen to confirm.

Thanks for the tip Spleen and the next time I am in Glasgow I can stock up.

I've never heard of Chelsea Whoppers either - what a curious name for a Scottish sweet. I wonder how that came about? Spleen, please enlighten us!

I remember Pineapple Cakes in the bakery and Coffee Buns which were flat and the size of a saucer, and remember a paper bag of Tunnocks Brokies for a shilling from the Rutherglen Rd shop, we used to use bus money and walk to Adelphi!

I thought everyone knew about Chelsea Whoppers?

But as Dot said, it's a sort of thin bar of fudge covered in chocolate powder.

Rectangular in shape, and about the size of the palm of your hand.
