Where do you get it?

Personally I buy most of my music new from shops, I do download a fare bit of stuff illegally. Mostly stuff that's really hard to get, like limited editions or out of print records.

If I don't know a band that well I will download a few of there songs, if I like I like what I hear I'll buy the album. There's nothing worse than hearing a song that you really like, then spending 16 quid and finding out the rest of the album's shite.

I do think if you really like a band you should support them financially, instead of stealing from them.

I try to avoid places like HMV and Virgin, preferring the smaller independent shops, however I did like Tower records. When it was open, it had an excellent back catalog, and it was a huge shop with 6 or 7 floors each dedicated to 2 or 3 kinds of music, and it was also open until midnight.

It's a shame it closed down, it was quite expensive but still the best shop in Glasgow. I suppose there was to much competition with HMV's and Virgin's popping up all over the place.

I get my music similar to you donjuan, although I dont mind about gong to places like HMV etc. I use iTunes if i only want one or two songs from an album/artist, and p2p/download sites for music that is hard to get, or from underground dj's. I can tolerate some of those dj's but only in small portions. If I want an album, i usually buy the cd as its less hassle than burning downloaded music to a disc for the car.

It's not that I'm saying I'm anti big corporations quite the opposite in fact, but if every record shop was like HMV and Virgin it would be sad.

I go to the smaller independents more often than not, because I like to support local business, and most of the people who work in the independents usually care more about the music.

In HMV and Virgin they see it as just a job and even if they do care about the music, they don't have the time to give that extra bit of attention to one customer, it's usually because it's so busy. That's another reason why I don't like them, most of the time you can't move and you just want to get out of the place as soon as possible.

In the smaller places you can relax and take your time without being barged into all the time, and I find them much more friendly.
And shops like missing are great for white labels limited editions and supporting local bands.

I'm the same - download a couple on the sly to check out the rest of the tracks and then buy the cd. If I'm in London I'll try Fopp otherwise its usually HMV. Not any indie shops round here.

Anywhere and everywhere ......if it's what I want, and the price/delivery is suitable. Vinyl is still predominantly the medium I prefer most, so Record Fairs, Specialist Shops & Magazines, Auctions, Car-boot Sales, Table-top Sales, House Clearances are where I find most of the best & rare music. Stumbling across something spontaneously is always a mind-blowing experience, the place you least expect to find something rare/excellent condition and going for next to nothing whereas big record Fairs with thousands on offer (plus numerous back catalogues) can be dissappointing sometimes when you leave empty-handed.
As for newly released material, you get the vibes for an artiste/band and nothing will stop you buying the product when it first comes out regardless of price/critics slamming it etc. I have bought stuff new for 35 years and it still gives me a buzz to choose a piece of music that involves commiting money to.....regardless of what anyone else is buying.

Music is the rythym of life.

They've never knowingly stocked a record by a soul or R&B artist. I'm sure the head who runs it picks out the worst prog rock nonsense as I turn into Parnie Street ands puts it in the player.

You have a point there Dexter, But i like Prog Rock and Soul, And come to think of it i have never got Soul music from there.
One of the guys who runs the place used to give me first shout at Queen Stuff when it came in. Cos they are my faves.

The record fayre, is that the one just off of King street that sells all the cannabis paraphernalia, big bongs, T shirts, herbal cannabis etc. It was really good for out of print rock.

There's an old church converted to an indoor market in Gibson Street which
had a vinyl store in it. Is that still there?

That was years ago. Vital Vinyl? emigrated to a shop in St. George's Road which closed about year ago. I think they might now be on e bay.
