Leftfield - Dusted:

Brilliant video. A nod to the styling of early Communist art? An expression of regret at the self-destruction of the early 20th century revolutionary dream? A comment on our own times - on how far we've come but how little we've learnt? Henry the mild-mannered janitor? Could be.

The very moment I learned to love The Pet Shop Boys.

There is an extended version of Go West, featuring what sounded (from memory) like a full-sized male choir, that I once heard on a trip to Germany and have been unable to find since.

I still hate 'East End Boys and West End Girls', though.

Rock'n'Soul Funky Style

Felonious Munk dips into his vinyl collection and mixes up soul, funk and rock with a soulful feel. Duane Allman played on Hey Jude by Wilson Pickett, the Fame crew as well as backing Aretha went out on tour with Traffic, Little Feat in between albums backed Nolan Porter on a couple of albums now favourites with soul fans. Catch them all on Tonight's Funky cuts.

Looks like no YouTube links for a while, maybe:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7933565.stm

Oh the PRS. A shop-owning friend of mine has had run-ins with that lot for a while. They present themselves as an official organisation, though they're nothing of the sort. Briefly summarising the last phone call:

My pal - "We only play music by non PRS members. Do we need a licence to play music made by artists who aren't PRS members?"
PRS cold caller - "I'm not at liberty to divulge that information."

A scam if ever there was one...

Yes paying people for using their work to improve the atmosphere at your work. If songwriters don't have a publisher who is registered with PRS they seriously can't be much of a songwriter. Unless of course your shop owning pal only plays Early Music and employs a pair of strolling minstrels to play it.

And please I beg of you don't start a debate here. There are millions of pixels devoted to explaining the why you have to pay copyrighted music in a public space.

See here for contributors who make our morons look like white stars.

Everything you want to know and a whole lot more you don't want to know is there.

You pay for water, power, a floorspace and decoration and for background music.

Well, in that case there's not much to say is there?

Incidentally, I'm listening to Radar Love Lizard by Rapeman.

Hidden Masters // Subcity Sessions is finally proud to present one of the absolute best local bands on the scene, the incredible Hidden Masters. Fronted by ex-The Needles' Dave Dixon, Hidden Masters have a perfected 60s garage-psych sound complete with amazing harmonies. They were recently featured on Glasgow School of Arts' compilation Art Goes Pop and are definitely a band to look out for!

The Ray Summers // Being formed at the beginning of 2008, Falkirk boys The Ray Summers have already managed to get massive attention supporting bands such as Sergeant, Alabama 3, Alphabeat and the Automatic as well as having their own sellout headline King Tuts gig. They will be stopping by Subcity Sessions during the start of their UK tour to perform their psychedelic mixture of 60s influences, indie, soul and ska for your listening pleasure.
