Nice lyrics too;
What were the skies like when you were young?

They went on forever
And they -- when I
We lived in Arizona
And the skies always had little fluffy clouds
And they were long and clear
And there were lots of stars, at night
And when it rained it would all turn
It -- they were beautiful
The most beautiful skies as a matter of fact
The sunsets were purple and red
And yellow and on fire
And the clouds would catch the colors everywhere
That's -- it's neat
Because I used to look at them all the time
When I was little
You don't see that

thanks for that. Rob Bowman (author of Soulsville) is currentlyassmbling and editing a tv fim of the 1967 Stax Volt European Tour. Otis Redding, sam and dave, Eddie Floyd, Arthur Conley, the Mar-Keys and Booker T and The MGs from wchich the clip is taken. They've missed the 40th anniversary but it will be out on DVD soon.

here's an earlier version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzPuQDHUO3g

and there's a superb live version on a cheap CD (from Fopp) Stax Revue at the 5/4 ballroom

Improper music

Postby MungoDundas » Sun May 27, 2007 10:32 pm

Apologies, as these are bandwidth wasting videos, however sometimes old-ish thumpy tunes in a foreign accent fit the bill...(just for the days Late Junction's not on y'understand?).

BBC 6 music are doing the sixties. Gideon Coe is running Freak Out by The Mothers against Sounds of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel. The wimps are winning.

This Heat - This Heat.

An album that has somehow managed to worm itself into my subconscious to such an extent that it it is now my favourite record ever, despite the fact that I thought it was just ok when I first bought it, and for a good fifteen years afterwards.

And following down a link from something posted on HG (can't now remember what it was), I see that the rather tasteful rateyourmusic have it in the top 50 albums of the year it was released. Which makes me feel rather less wilfully obscure than usual 8)
