Glasgow's most iconic building.

What would you consider to be amongst Glasgow's most iconic buildings? If I was forced to whittle it down to a handful, say 5 then I would have to put them in a running order.

1. University of Glasgow, Gilmorehill
2. Glasgow Cathedral
3. Barony Church, Cathedral Square
4. St Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Garnethill
5. City Chambers, George Square

I gave this a bit of thought. Dosnt in any way mean I am right but I was trying to think what would truly be an ICON. There are popular buildings and fancy buildings but I think to be iconic it needs to be something that draws people just for the building and by that criteria I nominate....

The Macintosh building at the Art School.

I think its a building that people come to Glasgow just to look at and for that reason iconic.

Pretty good criteria BT, in that case I'd have to add Central Station to the list, Mitchell Library has already been mentioned but it would feature too. Going also by that criteria the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, along with the Burrell, Maryhill Burgh Halls and two historic swimming pools; The Arlington Baths and the Western Baths would also have to be added.

I know of people who've deliberately set out from far flung destinations just to capture these structures and each of them have their own merits. Modern buildings that seem believe to be iconic are the Hydro, SEC Armadillo and the Science centre's 'rotating' tower....and the ziggy, zaggy transport museum.

Be interesting to see if any more suggestions come forward.

I'd have to have the old part of GRI.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.
