House Clearance

Postby Monument » Sat Nov 01, 2014 10:06 am

I have to clear out a flat in Clydebank of stuff I am unlikely to want. Any suggestions on how this stuff can be got rid of? Are there charities or companies that come and take stuff away?

Would appreciate any tips, thanks.

Had to do this when my mother died, a few years ago.
Thing is charities have become a whole lot more choosy about what they will take, and few will clear an entire house.
Not many will take electrical goods for instance, but BHF in Partick, will, if they are in reasonable condition.
St. Vincent de Paul, will take furniture but only if fire retardant labels affixed and Oxfam will take clothes but you need to bag them and take them to the shop.
He advocated for the weak against the strong, the poor against the rich and labour against capital.

I donate stuff to Starter Pack Govan. They recycle goods to other Glasgow citizens and and sell other donations in their two shops.

They have a hand FAQ on donations which are probably shared by other charities.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Gumtree and Freecycle are good places to pass stuff on.
They boil them for 20 of their Earth minutes

Thanks for the tips folks. It is a bit tricky, as I will only be down in Glasgow for two days, and not really sure what is in the flat yet - so cannot put stuff on Gumtree. But I will check out the other places you have mentioned.

Ta :)
