Comet Ison

Postby pingu » Mon Nov 25, 2013 9:26 am

Comet ison is approaching fast

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-25052236

apparently will be as bright as a full moon and last nearly the whole of December.

does anyone know and really dark areas north(ish) of the city that would be good for getting some photos?
ive had a look on the dark sky site but most of the areas on there are a bit far away.

I usually head up to Rest and Be Thankful - good place and dark skies....

It's okay, I just heard on the radio, that a few hours after it disappeared, some of it reappeared.

ye think it might be bit hard to see now and what with it only being visible just before dawn will make it a bit tricky to get to somewhere decent too

Did anyone else see a meteorite over Lesmahagow this morning? I was driving south on the M74 after 8a.m. and a very bright light with a long vapour trail moving at great speed from right to left over the road.It didn't seem very high as it was in my line of vision,I didn't need to raise my eyes, and was below the horizon about 500 feet in front of me. 8O

I know 500ft isn't very far in astronomical terms but you'd still need to be Mr Tickle to grab it ;)
