Well, in that case, a very happy Coral Anniversary (just looked it up on good ol' Wikipedia) to you and your good lady wife.

You know you're getting old when the folk you started Primary 1 with start dying.

I got the news last night that one of the lassies I knew from school passed away. She'd been fighting cancer for a few years, and seemed to be in the clear, but with these things you can never tell.

Things being what they are with the COVID restrictions, it'll be close family only at the funeral.

You look in the mirror and think you are no spring chicken but you will do for now.
Then you put on your specs and see everything close up and it's frightening.

And you can’t help but read the obituaries, brings it home, I am always pleased when I see my fellow Wegians draping off in their eighties, as a 61yr old it gives me a wee bit of hope!

Further to my post about Primary school.

Someone posted our P2 class picture onto Facebook, I'm not in it (long story, don't ask), but I guess I'm getting old cos I've only the vaguest idea of some of my classmates names.

I mind the teacher's name - unlikely ever to forget her.
What do they say? You remember the good teachers, but you remember the bad ones more.

I am guessing you were not in the photo because it was your signing on day at the Bru, me too, I can’t find anyone who was at school with me or without me, Buchan St in the Gorbals, Wolseley St in Oatlands and then it was big boys school at Adelphi- perhaps they are all deed, I am 61 you know that’s ancient

Chances are I'm not in the picture cos the teacher was a horrible auld cow who didn't want the wee baldy heided boy (me) spoiling the look of the thing.

This was the woman who once got me so upset about some tiny trivial thing, that I puked on my desk.

She's long since gone to the Bad Fires, but it's one of my biggest regrets that I only learned about her death years after the fact.
Otherwise I'd have driven a stake through the bitch's cold black heart, just to be sure.

One of my mates passed away quite suddenly last Friday. He was only a couple of years older than me. Still waiting on autopsy results, but it's looking like complications from diabetes and a change in his meds.

So that's what's making me feel old today.

But it says a great deal about the shitty state this country of ours is in, when his younger sister (his only family) and his best mate/flatmate have had to set up a GoFundMe page in order to raise money for the poor bugger's funeral.

I'm happy to say I donated. He was a damn good friend. And if the situation had been reversed, I'm sure he'd have done the same.

Aye, I was out on Friday there. A mate I'd not seen in about a year and a half came through to Greenock for a while.

So we went for a meal and a drink in the pub, talked a load of crap for an hour or so, and raised a glass in memory of our departed friend.

Funeral arrangements TBC, but likely to be mid June.

My eldest niece turns 30 in a week or so. That's making me feel old today.
