I have to say, I actively prefer Dick Van Dyke's 'British' accent to the genuine article.

Taking you serious I googled-it's an old English word for umbrella that the Americans think we use instead of the word umbrella.
Worse than that though, Dick Van Dyke has just taken ill. :(

Dick van Dyke is right: it's all the other cockneyists that are wrong.

ps: Mary Poppins is the finest, most magical length of celluloid wonderfullness that has ever been, or will ever be.

Worst ever accent ?

Meryl Streep's Americanised Aussie accent in 'Azaria' with the statement:

"The dingo's got my baby !"

Good, but I felt that - like Bedknobs and Broomsticks - it fell short of the celluloid epitomyness of MP.

You're probably correct, but the output of DVD and JA is such that all other celluloid pales in comparison.

... except for that of Cary Grant and/or Katherine Hepburn. Bringing Up Baby remains the high point of Western Civilisation.

For the remainder of the afternoon, I will be mostly singing

Near, far, in our motor car Oh what a happy time we'll spend.
Bang Bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Our fine four fendered friend.
Bang Bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Our fine four fendered friend
Chitty bang bang Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Our fine four fendered Chitty Chitty Bang.

Think yourself lucky that you're not in the vicinity.
