The end of the world! Meteors...

Okay, maybe not, but great video of a meteor landing in Russia. Do they land? Exploding maybe.
Beware of yawning dogs.

It's getting a bit scary....
Asteroid 2012 DA14 set for record-breaking Earth pass

How did an asteroid manage to obliterate ALL the dinosaurs? I was under the impression that they were scattered all over the earth (before the impact) 8O

don't say it was because they didn't have satellites to warn them!
Yes HH,I know

Does make one think about things though. What is it.. KE = 1/2 MV^2 (dredging the depths one's long lost schooldays)? Some celestial footballer putting one in the net sooner or later; or maybe a celestial snooker player. I think the dinosaur theory is based on the fact that with speed the energy released by an impact is exponential and something the size of an atom impacting within a pinprick of lightspeed could either annihilate a galaxy or cause £1bn improvements to North Lanarkshire.

The location of the dinosaurs didn't matter really. One sufficiently large meteorite could throw up enough dust and dirt to block out all the light from the sun, making the earth freezing, and stopping things like photosynthesis. Nae plants, plant eaters die. Plant eaters die, plant eater eaters die.

Kinda like a nuclear winter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_winter

Yes. It's happened many times since. The eruption of Tambora in 1815, for instance, caused summer to be cancelled and consequent crop failures and famine.

It's been suggested that the colouration in the landscape paintings of Turner and Monet (and others who were active through periods of significant volcanic activity, including Tambora and Krakatoa) were far more representative of reality than is generally assumed to be the case. It's probably true.

Aye, you would have thought that if you were in that part of Russia this morning.

This person was just driving about this morning and caught the best film I have seen of the event. And the car radio is tuned to the local version of Sunny Govan Radio:

Glasgow ya bas!
