Gathered up a few updates to post at once.
Steering wheel replacement is on the list of jobs to pretty up the inside as the nice leather wrapped Mota-Lita wheel has gone dry and the leather has split beyond repair.
Lots of looking around and Joanne found a wood rimmed wheel she really liked. Listed as semi-dished and sold by the usual VW outlets there was no reason to think it wouldnt be a straight forward replacement but there turned out to be 2 problems.
First was the boss. Sold as a direct fit for a '67 Beetle, there was no doubt that it fit onto the shaft but once on there it almost completely covered the threads on the column so there was no way to fit the nut that would hold it in place;
Before returning the boss we sat the wheel in place to see how it looked and this brought up the second problem, the wheel is too close to the indicator stalk so knuckles make contact when turning (I know, I have very feminine hands);
So the old wheel is back on and the Mountney wheel that was purchased is on its way back to the supplier.
Other jobs completed;
Rear interior panels had the damp proof membrane and foam seal fitted to the car then clipped in place;
I completely forgot to take a pic of the door panel fitted.
Next up, we went round the car and fitted all the trim clips. This is not a fun job on perfect paintwork;
But once the new chrome trim is fitted the stress is worth it as it looks great;
Also got the glove box lid in place but cant find the latch. Deck lid spring and catch is fitted and another list of things we need to buy has been drawn up.
This weeks plan is to get a different steering wheel ordered and a carpet set on its way.
