Dear Itchy Bawbag

Postby Jenny Geddes » Fri Apr 02, 2010 7:12 pm

A DAD opened a letter from BT - only to find himself addressed as "Itchy Bawbag".
And self-employed builder Robert Wilson says the stunt has left him "disgusted".
The letter began "Dear Mr Bawbag".
It went on to offer a calls service and was signed Warren Buckley, managing director, customer services.
Robert, 42, of Drumchapel, Glasgow, said: "I was stunned to see the name 'Itchy Bawbag' on the front of the letter, with my full address on it.
"When I opened it things got no better because 'Itchy Bawbag' and 'Dear Mr Bawbag' were at the top.
"I've been in touch with BT to ask to speak to Mr Buckley.
"The staff told me he was not available but they have sent him an urgent email."
Robert and wife Jane, 29, have seen the funny side.
But they are angry because daughter Kayleigh, nine, sometimes opens the mail.
Robert said: "If Kayleigh had seen this first I would be extremely annoyed.
"I'm still waiting to see if he replies. If he calls me Mr Bawbag on the phone, I'll have a couple of things ready to call him."
A BT spokesman said: "This is a puerile attempt at humour and totallly unacceptable. We apologise."

Then why are BT owning up to it?

If it did come from BT, it wouldn't surprise me, given my recent experience. "Dear Mr Bawbag" is exactly the kind of test data you'd expect to find kicking around a development system. Let's suppose they're running a test-version of their software and some of the output is accidentally sent out in the post. I could see it happening.

I remember setting up a printer in a spare room at my office years ago in order to test an estimate-printing application that we'd written. The managing director wandered in there while I was at lunch and spied a clutch of estimates with some imaginative data on it and soon flew into my boss's office with a fine purple face...

Fortunately my boss had defused the situation before I came back from lunch. It can't have been easy explaining to a Neanderthal what test data is and that it never enters a live system.

Except where users have access to both the live and the test system and forget which one they're using.

Unless you're counting several fairies at the bottom of the garden, two monsters in the wardrobe and a pretendy old-retainer called Harris... ;)

Would that be a wrinkled retainer?

No surprise there and if the lawyers get a result, I'd like to talk to them.

Lawyers - what a ignoramous this guy is - get an apology - verbal and in front of lots of TV crews; demand free BT calls and top level broadband for 5 years then forget about it. This is how parasitic scum (lawyers) get so much money and why the country loses so much money!
