I don't know what X-men story arcs you're referring to Dave, but I can think of many where the planet was saved by the funky mutants super powers. And yes, they are super powers, being able to fly: super power - being able to control the weather: super power - super strength: by definition a super power - laser beams for eyes: super power (presuming Specsavers can do nothing to cure said optical anomaly) - the ability to warp magnetism and gravity not to mention time and space: pretty safe bet that's a super power ....

... the ability to turn four by twos into two by ones: handy, but not much use against alien invaders.

I think Glen Michael showed the Superman cartoons. He just about invented the cartoon show and when Rolf Harris fronted Cartoon Time on BBC STV found the price of the films went up and had to buy cheaper, older toons.
