The best music pub/jam session/open mic?

Postby hungryjoe » Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:04 pm

Not living in Glasgow it's hard to keep up. I can get the gig guide but it doesn't offer an opinion re quality.
I know about the Scotia, Clutha,State Bar and Sammy Dows. I've been to one or two fairly quiet open mic sessions in Partick. Any suggestions (from personal experience) welcome.

We (Celtic Music Radio, http://www.celticmusicradio.net ) have recently started hosting a fortnightly session, in the upstairs bar at Paisley Arts Centre, New St, Paisley. Every second Thursday. Free entry.

Linen in Shawlands does an open mic on a sunday night. It's pretty good music too.

Linen's been pretty hit and miss when I've been in. Tis worth a visit though.

In the same neck of the woods, I enjoy the Friday night folk sessions in the Ivory Hotel on Langside Avenue. There tends to be a core group of musicians there, but it seems that anyone is welcome to trun up and play. The price of a pint in there is horrific, right enough.
