Mine was in the Clynder Hotel on the Gareloch some time in 1972 wth my Dad and Uncle Iain. When I stayed in Linthouse he regularly sent me for a carry oot and if I could get cheap ones, I could have one for myself. If I remember the cheapest then was in an offie opposite Fairfields on the Govan Road, long since gone, just along from McCulloughs the bike shop.
Then I buggered off to uni in England so never had the experience of trawling the Govan Road bars as a teenager. But I did before the area was remodelled/flattened/ruined. It was an experience. 'Yer nae fra here then? and all of that shite, then followed the questions which proved that I was indeed from the posh part of Govan. Ho hum. :(

My first pint in a pub was the albert bar in queens park I was 15 at the time it was a scorcher it was the day before the 1980 Scottish cup final when there was a riot after Celtic beat Rangers and the horses were on the pitch charging the crowds. I also got my first ootdoor shag that day in queens park but thats probably TMI.

That's Hungry Joe you're thinking of. He's not had them emptied for a while.

I was a late starter as well - but Strathclyde Uni student's union was my first pint in a pub - Freshers' Week 1994; I was 17 but nobody gave a monkeys in those days. I used my lifetime membership card to go for a trip down memory lane a few months back - £1.80 for a pint of Tennents served from a plastic glass - how things have moved on (not..)
