the hielan jessie on the gallowgate next to the barra`s has got to be one of the oldest pubs in glasgow, built in the late 1700's and named after a young lady of ill repute who used to sell her ''wares'' to the soldiers in the near by barracks, now known as barrack st.wonderful decor, and if you are from the west end, worth a wee visit just to listen in on the east end style of ''THE BANTER''! ::):

what is the oldest pub in glasgow?, used to think that the old college bar in high street was, or possibly the sarry heid, which used to have a morgue underneath in the cellars

Incidentally. Heilan' Jessie's was an excellent 'fringe' venue during the Glasgow International Folk Festivals of the mid 1980s. Smashing sessions hosted Bill (Gold?).
