Chinaski's

Postby myfriendstan » Mon Aug 18, 2008 9:26 pm

Was in on saturday and noticed some work being done out back and when I was leaving noticed that Fergus has bought The Ritz. Are the two pubs being made into one?

The word from the former Ritz regulars from my work was that it was being bought by them and turned into a club.

The Ritz was dieing on its arse with too few regulars. We used to eat there at lunch time and drop in after work but those habits appear to have faded.

I had a look at their licensing application it's for a midnight finish so no club.

It mystifies me how such a stylish bar can be named after Charles Bukowski's alter-ego.

Try drinking next to the bins and calling it stylish.

I take back my nixing the club idea
at the Ritz. My new understanding is that teh basement will be turned into a club space but it will be a quiet club.

There's an application (ref 08/03096/DC) in for "Use of ground floor and basement of public house as licensed entertainment venue." at 241 North Street Glasgow.

Is this the same place?
238 to 127. All in all a good afternoon's work

I'm with Mac on this, two places with such obvious nods to the great man/old drunk bastard (delete as preferred), neither of which are the kind of places he'd have been seen dead in....

When I grow up, I'll open a real Bukowski bar, although to be honest, there are probably a hundred in Glasgow already doing such a grand job without even realising it.

I see that Dave from the Garage/Admiral is leasing the Black Sparrow from Fergus.
