Barns in Sweden are traditionally painted red for the same reason:

MacSorley's also has an upstairs bit, doesn't it?

Last time I was in North London I noticed a lot of pubs had paintwork that featured purple heavily.

Was in The Grove, Kelvingrove Street for the first time recently, thought it was like stepping back in time. Decent prices too as I recall.

Good thread BTW

I still recommend the Horse Shoe of course to people who are going to Glesga!

I worked a while for Agnews wholesale to the "On sales" so got to visit a lot of free houses all over. That was almost 20 years ago, and even then I was astounded how many wee broon pubs there were.

DId smoking law kill a lot of them off? I am pretty glad to have a night out without ashtray clothes.

Off geography- a maukit wee boozer in Cupar with the best pub name I have ever been in " the drukket dug"! Still there or do we nae parlez wi' fifers?

Superb!

Did my spelling in old norsk: in modern norwegian it's "Druknet". Difficult to say if words came like that and "Midden" for example, came with the Vikings or with earlier "anglish" .

The sign was a delapodated version of the way it stands now

dont frequent pubs as i dont drink so cant comment on the interior though it has been the scene of a few fights and stabbings though(there a tough lot in cupar who frequent the pubs)
parking available in the bonnygate car park if you ever fancy giving it a visit exit carpark turn left and its across the road just past the traffic lights

Lucky I just dipped in for the odd liquid lunch then and n'er got a chibbin'

(- Ah the liquid lunch .....once a week, before the Politically Correct Crowd did in for that with their bloody Perrier!)

I will however refrain from more than a 'hawf' when driving.

Edit upon Googlin': There is also a "Drookit Dug " also in Lennoxtown, is that up in the Vale or under the Campsies? G66?

What hold could the politically correct crowd have over a man that they could force him to drink Perrier rather than Ushers. Of course it takes a hard man to drink a Benzene cocktail

Was in it once in the 70's and I'll always remember it as the scene of the worst pub brawl ever (nothin to do with me) definately not the Kind Man - then ::):
