My mother refused to believe me when I told that deep fried pizza exists. She lives in a world of Julia Child and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, and just can't imagine such a travesty.

At the Scotland-Italy game all the Scots were singing "We're gaunny deep fry yer pizzas", then the Italians replied with "We're gaunny put yer Whisky into ice-cream"(or Italian words to that effect)

Funny thing is, it's not a Scottish invention. Those Neopolitans will deep fry just about anything: rice balls (Palle di Riso), melanzane, zucchini flowers and yes, even their famous pizza...

I had ice cream deep fried in batter in Tuscany.

The 'in Tuscany' bit makes it ok.

Had it been 'in Rutherglen' or 'just off Duke Street' it would just have been wrong.

OK that's not good, I don't think there could be a further away place with an 0141 number than that (I'm in Swinton).

Time to start trawling the local takeaways for that bad boy.

That's the very fellow.

They deserve top billing too, as they are the absolute dab.

Wasn't it the Sikh bloke in Murphys Pakora Bar that invented and/or popularised haggis pakora? I have a memory of seeing something about it in the Evening Times the last time I read it. Which is something approaching twenty-odd years ago.

That was certainly the first place I encountered it, aye. Circa 1990...

cf. The Fire Station in Ingram Street and their wonderful Haggis Pasta.

Ceqwa on Dumbarton Road in Thornwood does Kebab Meat Pakora. Pretty nice actually but I shudder to think how bad it must be for you.
