as in PJ Champs on Byres Rd the otehr week and ordered a burger. They said "There will eb a delay as the burgers are home made and she;s making them". We were like "aye right, off to farmfoods more like".

We were wrong - fairly thick, nice mix of spices and herbs through it, good quality meat, not greasy at all, served in a good sized bun with fries and salad.

been back since and consistent quality. £5.50 or 2 meals for £10.

I had a great burger in Mono the other night. Okay, it doesn't have ground up cow in it, but goddamn it was good enough that I didn't care.

Second (or whatever) Ad Lib.

I do love a good quality gourmet burger though, so I hope to have a chance to try out some of the suggestions garnered from this thread.

I second this completely.....Ad Lib, best burger I have tasted ever!! but if we start talking about veggie burgers...no other place but Bar Soba mmmmm

Ad Lib has had an excellent reputation for burgers stretching back to the time Eddie Topalian (?) opened the place back in the 70s (?)

I think Eddie T was the guy who opened Cardinal Follies at Pitt Street/ Bath Street in the early 80s(?)

(?) perhaps Dex remembers better than me.

I don't remember anything I research.

But yes Ad Lib always did a good burger even if you could not buy an after hours drink till they sat you at the table. God bless Presbyterian licensing laws.

Gone are the days of getting a superb summer tan lying on a bench in George Square waiting for the pubs to reopen at five.

Tanning salons, mini-breaks to exotic locations - all started after the liberalisation of the licencing laws.

Co-incidence? I think not.

It was indeed Eddie Topalian who opened up the Ad Lib. I don't know how long the gap was between an armed incident at the Ad Lib, Cue Police Helicopter overhead Hope Street and his disappearance from the scene.

He was supposedly a witness in a drugs trial. The story at the time was that he'd fled (home?) to Armenia.

Someone mentioned Butterfly and Pig a while back. I was in there last week and had the cheeky cheese burger, was well tasty!! I agree with the mention of staff being slow, but they were nice enough.

Speaking of Ad Lib. I notice North of Bondi (foot of Byres Rd) has morphed into another Ad Lib.

I passed there tonight about seven o' clock, and there wasn't a single customer in there. It'll morph again soon, no doubt.
