Early opening pubs on Sunday mornings?

Wonder if anyone can help? Early last Sunday morning, around 6am, me and my mate decided we would go for a drink  Tried the usual suspects, like The Budgie in Blochairn, Iron Horse in West Nile St, then down to the Barras, but all to no avail. Then it dawned on us it was Sunday, to be fair a few refreshments had been taken already ::): . Just wondered for future reference if there were ANY pubs that open in Glasgow before 12-30 pm on Sundays? You would think there had to be for nightshift workers and the like, or do our licensing laws totally outlaw this?

Actually, someone should fix this. I passed the pub called McKinnons at Glasgow Cross this morning at 9am on my way to work, and it was open alright! I just don't see what the difference is between a Sunday and a Tuesday, apart from the religious angle, you know, with it being the Sabbath etc.

as far i was lead to believe the sunday licensing laws were set up by the church, hence the 12.30 start.

i always joked that this reason was because the only person to be pissed in a church/chapel etc on a sunday is the person in the dog collar ::):

Supermarkets are also not allowed to sell alcohol before 12.30pm on a Sunday, but can sell it from 8am other days of the week, until 10pm in most cases.

The Wetherspoons pubs mostly open at 9am on a Sunday so the licensing laws can't be strictly 12:30.

Ah, but are they serving alcohol then? It may just be soft drinks and tea/coffees.

The weatherspoons down here in Manchester opens at 8am and serve beer and spirits after 8.30. Is great as I work nights.

The law may be different down here as everything else bloody well is!

The pubs should think about night shif workers.

There was some sports event on TV on a Sunday morning and lwayers combved the law to see if they could even open never mind serve alcohol. I think with a nod and a wink Argyll let soem hotels serve coffee.

Indeed, all the Wetherspoons in Glasgow open at 9am on Sundays, but they don't serve any alcohol until 12.30pm (11am every other day) due to Scottish licensing laws. Sends some of the punters from down south and elsewhere in a bit of a twist.

Glasgow First goes for the Jakey vote.

After sitting on the board for the last four years and doing nothing Andy Muir and his fellow soon to be unemployed chancers have voted for Glasgow pubs to open at 10:00 on a Sunday morning.
