Pubs without windows.
Pubs with the price of a pint painted on the exterior wall.
Pubs that play Country & Western music.
Pubs with a car park full of broken glass.
Pubs with signage that pre-dates 1980.

Are often pretty dodgy.

Having said that I was in a pub in Dundee's Hilltown that met most of the above criteria. The place was grim and I am sure, had I not been meeting the owner, I would have been enjoying a quick bout of wrestling. But it did serve the best pint I've ever tasted. Probably has something to do with the owner drinking it himself.

been in the saracen head a few time and although it has a dodgy reputation I've always found it quite reasonable.

I'm intrigued by 'The lampost' just on your left side as you enter Duke St from High St. Classic no windows pub, rarely see anyone going in or out and when you do they look as if they are about 95 years old and incapable of walking more than 10 feet.

Aaaahhh! The Lampost - first pub I was ever in (it was called Carrs Bar then) :)

The Cellar in Paisley...isn't a cellar...

Every time I pass that pub there seems to be multiples of broken bar stools/chairs/tables lying outstide, surely that is a bad sign? Or merely poor workmanship?

But it's not a cellar... :?

Bibo Cibo - Boring Costly

Postby escotregen » Sun Nov 07, 2004 9:14 pm

I was at the Bibo Cibo at Bell Street/The Square in the Merchant City last Friday night. I was a reluctant attender as I've been twice before when we ended up walking out after waiting an age to get served. This time the event was someone's going away so I felt I had to go. I don't mind high prices where you'r getting something in return, but the prices here were really. really expensive and I just couldn't see why. It was just a half empty, 'theme-with-no-theme' place. In the time honoured way, after a decent period "I made my excuses and left"

Have found the Crystal Palace in Jamaica Street a bit of a dump. Also, the Anvil in Riddrie - yuck.

Most pretentious bar - Kelly Cooper Barr in Bath Street - what a honker.
