Baird's on a Thursday

Postby the bar biographer » Fri Nov 05, 2010 7:26 pm

Haven't been along the Gallowgate at night for a while. But went past Baird's last night around 10pm and it was shut!
So was Eastender's. Any news on the reason, other than falling trade?

Round the corner on London Road the Braemar was open, but only just.

I knew many east end pubs were cutting their opening hours, some just restricting themselves to match days but didn't expect Baird's to be affected.

A lot of the bars around here have irregular opening hours.
A vagabond on the way.

ONE of Scotland's best-known football pubs has been forced to shut down after its owners were brought before licensing chiefs over repeated violent incidents, including claims staff cleaned up a crime scene.

Slightly off-topic I know, but three of the four pubs in Saracen have been shut for weeks now. I was told that it was something to do with failing to renew the licence(s) by the owner of The Saracen, The Balmore and The Brothers.

The Standard, further along Saracen St, is the only one open at present; I'd imagine they're raking it in just now!

the owner of the 3 pubs refused to pay his water bill so the water board went in escorted by plod to cut their supply off....thus voiding their license

Ah, well that explains it.

Wonder why he just refused to pay then? You'd think some form of negotiation would be in order really. Still, if the pubs are shut, I suppose it cuts down the fighting etc associated with them.
