Does anyone know if there was a Charlie Parker's in Glasgow in the eighties?

Yes.

Next to what is now the MoMA, on the corner through the arch past The Rogano. Di Maggio's or something now?

There's a pic at http://www.oldglasgowpubs.co.uk/charlie ... hange.html although I've a notion that's a pic of Di Maggios.

I would be very interested to see a copy of that if you could scan it...

One of the rooms in the new Criterion is called Charlie Parker's in 'homage' to the club. It has lots of B&W photos on the walls and Tom Urie playing the piano at the weekend.

In its day Charlie Parkers was the place to be seen. It was the classic posers pub. guys with fancy sports cars and gorgeous girls were all to be found at CP's on saturday nights. I was working in a city centre club at the time so i would think it would be the mid to late 70's. the door stewards were always very particular about the kind of punters they wanted in 8)

If only more establishments were "always very particular about the kind of punters they wanted in" our city might not have the reputation it still bears.

I'm not sure I'd agree about it being the "classic posers pub". It was certainly a place you could go and spend a few hours and a (guid) few quid without much risk of going home with a sore face, a Mars Bar or not getting home at all.

A bit of grub at Rogano and a few drinks in Charlie's was a fine way to spend a Friday night back then.
