hidden pubs and clubs

Postby tickey » Tue May 25, 2010 7:56 pm

heres 1 for all of those who like a swally now and then.

does anyone know any pubs or clubs that are hidden away to the general public mostly they are for members only and only the members know about . i can think of a couple that are hidden away. not sure of they are still open tho.

the queens club - walk up queen st from argyle street by the old littlewoods entrance on the right handside there is a large door looks like a store room with a buzzer to the side of it. this is the entrance to the club.
i was in a couple of times in the 90's had 2 bars and a snooker table in 1 of them so as you can imagine it was actually a very large place.

the press club - on west regent st between bath lane and hope street, top floor of the buiding, probably a lot more well known than i actually thought considering the amount of people iv heard of that had been in it at 1 time or another. had a spiral concrete staircase leadin up to the entrance with a bar snooker, room and 2 smaller private rooms.

anyone know anymore i imagine there must be a few dotted about the city.

the cameronian rifles club is reasonably well hidden
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

There must surely be loads and loads of members-only clubs in Glasgow, or anywhere else for that matter.

We even had several HG nights out in one, the Polish Sikorsky Club in Kelvingrove

There's the Reform Club on Cressy Street in Linthouse. I've passed often and although I've never been in it looks like the kind of place tickey is asking about.
I hear the people sing.

Something that Glasgow lacks, hidden venues. The closest we get is The Flying Duck and The Big Joint.

Probably more hidden clubs/pubs in one Soho Street than whole of Glasgow.

Would be good also to have a few real backstreet/alley bars. Tiny wee places with just a hatch and a couple of outside stools and an awning of course for our prevailing weather.

Not exactly hidden but not well known; the Ex-Serviceman's Social Club in Shawlands, Titwood Road has some parties from time to time.

The main night ran there is iBop which I'm sure is advertised here.

Here's a night I'm doing that aims to combine music and films in some shape or form!

MAKE 1, 2 present a wee party that will show 3 short films along with some DJ's playing before, in between and after each film.

The Southside of Glasgow is on the up and up and the idea is to throw a party that combines films and music. So we've enlisted a few friends to play records they see fit and asked some amateur filmmakers to come along and show their work.

The venue is pretty unique; it's tucked away in the quiet end of Shawlands/Crossmyloof and I don't think it's been decorated since 1964, which is a good thing. Hefty rustic.

Anyone living on the East Coast should know about Jamie Coull and his penchant for playing all sorts of gems and after he has been smashing clubs out East, it's about time he played Glasgow. On the West Coast, anyone who knows their onions will have either been to a Huntleys & Palmers party or have heard one of Andrew's mixes featuring some obscure nuggets fitting seamlessly with modern belters.

Craig Kenny is a musical pest that hosts an internet radio show aptly called 'The End of Radio' on local station, Pulse FM. With a grubby finger in just about every musical pie, Craig should be playing some of the grimiest Rockabilly/Rock n' Roll/Garage-Rock and other early night audio pearlz.

Music will be selected by:

Mr Coull (CNCRT STRTS)
Andrew (Huntleys & Palmers)
+ Anthony
+ Craig (PulseFM)

Films:

Jacob: A Man Asleep (by BURTBASREESCAT)
Night School (by Ben Soper)
Personal Jesus (by Joe Carter)
