Some staff are recently arrived in UK, and one or two are not too hot with questions about the menu - what had nuts / wheat in it etc, but there's normally one 'Maitre D' type guy on each floor.

Are you absolutely sure? This is where my work had their xmas night out last year, they decided not to even consider it for this year's night out as they felt they were being taken for a ride, i'm told the waiter brought some food over and the conversation went like this...

waiter - "buono appetite"
work colleage - "that's not what i ordered"
waiter - "but itsa ona ma list"
work colleage - "but it's not what i ordered!"
waiter - "but itsa ona ma list"
work colleage - "well it wasn't on my list that i picked"
waiter (to kitchen) - "HERE, THIS ISNAE THE RIGHT ORDER AH'VE GIT HERE!"

DISCLAIMER: conversation possibly made more stereotypical for humour value, but the end result is still the same

Anyone been to "one seven ate" on Kilmarnock Road at night time? Looks not too bad and the menu seems good.

Re: La Vita - I ate here last week and the service was appalling. I was with 2 American relatives and I was embarrassed by my fellow countryman! The food was overpriced and average, too. Will not be back.

I know I've said it before, but was at Roastit Bubbly Jock's again the next nite and despite it being heaving in there, the service was attentive and the food marvellous.

Dakhin in Candleriggs- South Indian food, a million miles away from the usual curry house rubbish. Nice decor, overlooking the City Halls. Lovely place to go for a meal, excellent service, and very reasonably priced.

Leo's, formerly Wilson's, 1 Fenwick Road, Giffnock

Went for brunch today. £14.70 for two focaccia and fries, one with steak, mushrooms and cheese, the other mediterranean vegetables (peppers, courgettes and cheese). As well as a pot of tea each. Friendly service, pleasant surroundings and nice food :)

Aye Tha G_man you've got to keep an eye on the booze element if your doing a 5pm deal. The eateries really hope to make up their margins on the extras and drink so that you can pay over the odds for a supposed bargain deal.

Funnily enough a couple of us have just used 5pm again when we knew we would be in town last Saturday lunch. We went to Anti-Pasta in Sauchiehall Street. The soup was good as were the main courses. However, from the moment we sat down I was repeatedly asked 'do you want a drink' (no I did not, that's why I didn't ask for one), then 'are you sure you don't want anything' . The other guy ordered a coke, and found that this was a costly thing to do.

I usually do stick to the basic 5pm deal and in that way it seems to work... wouldn't ever use it for a 'proper' meal out unless it was an exceptional order.

I've been to The Left Bank on Gibson Street, just down from the university, a couple of times in the last few months and it was excellent both times. I recommend the burger and the so-called "super salad" in particular, the latter being a truly mammoth dish filled with all kinds of exciting goodies (don't be put off by the idea of it being merely a salad). The staff were really friendly too, and I like the lay out of the place; it feels fun somehow to sit up on the mezzanine level.

I'm sure it's been mentioned by someone, but I usually find Pizza Express excellent when I'm in Glasgow and want to get something decent and quick to eat before the cinema.

There's one on Sauchiehall street, and one just off George Square. The service is usually speedy and polite, the pizza delicious :D
