Dont tell anybody but i just had a wee whistle stop tour of some lost places in central station, On fear of being taken doon and locked away the names of the innocent must remain a secret.
Seen a cool pre war telephone room, old boiler rooms and a tasty wee insight into access to the old grahamston part.
Got some pictures if someone can tell me how to attach them?

Did anybody else go to the Grand Central event by NVA back in 1999. It was a installation that took over the top 2 floors of the Central Hotel. Its hard to explain but it was a kind of performance art thing, you walked around the rooms which had been tranformed into vision of hell and decay. It was only on for a week and you did it during the night. It also played on that fact that an Italian chef plunged to his death from the window of room 719 on to the roof of the station below, some 20 years.

Talk about creepy, it scared the bejesus outta me. Faces would appear in the mirrors, and creepy crawlies would emerge from drawers.
There is some more info on the NVA website http://www.nva.org.uk/grandreview.htm

Love to see your photos of hidden places in the station, eggy

I have yet to make it to an NVA event - I just never seem to be in Glasgow at the right time!

As promised I've uploaded eggy's photographs from the bowels of central station. http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/rail/central/index.htm

I was at that NVA Grand Central too.

Glasgow should do more things like this...

I remember waiting in the waiting room watching an old couple dancing to old 20's music. It really reminded me of 'The Shining'. The atmosphere was amazing.

The rooms were odd to say the least... I would have had a field day thinking these up! :) The guy behind the mirror freaked me out.

Does anyone know what happened to the top floor of the Central Hotel after this attraction?

Didnt catch this show, but I did see the Goddothin show at the tramway many moons ago, and the show they put on at the Doulton Fountain in Glasgow Green.

How many floors does the Central Hotel have?

I thought they were using the top floors for that NVA project then were planning to change the top floor into Penthouse suites after. I'm sure of it. I designed a spread of it in Go! Magazine way back when - I'll need to did it out again.

Then again - maybe they never got round to it!

Facinating stuff. Wish I'd known about this at the time.
