During the 2nd world war 225 Hamilton Rd. Was used as an emergency broadcasting station. This is why it was the only house
In Mt.Vernon to keep its cast iron gates and railings.
It was purchased by James B MacWillam as a private house in 1946 and sold to Reo Stakis in 1950
223 Hamilton Rd was owned by Mr & Mrs Gardner
221 Hamilton Rd was the Homeopathic Hospital
Next to The Grange was a bungalow and Murray and Neilsons garage
Sorry I have no photographs

You mentioned Neilson's garage. I can remember it quite well. For quite a few years, back in the fifties, there was a pile of scrap metal and other junk at the south side of the ground belonging to the garage, which you could see as you passed along Mount Vernon Avenue. In among that junk, believe it or not, were parts of an old WW2 plane!

...Why it ended up there on the land just beside the garage is anyone's guess, but I glanced at it with curiosity every time I went by. One of its wings was sticking right up in the air, and the roundels were still visible - but I couldn't see all of it and I kept wondering what kind of plane it actually was, and what kind of action it had seen during the war.

Useless piece of info I know - but I was fond of building model planes, plastic or balsa wood. I liked it when the plane was there at the garage - and then one day it was gone....
