Aye you're right. Let's ditch the leisure pursuit of gabbing over topics on HG. Tell the historians to burn the books. Then we'll have all the time in the world to worry about today's problems all the time.

If I can i'll try and get a photo of it but wondered if anyone can shed some light on this?

Cheers

I had a wee swatch whilst I was up that way and here's what I found.......

Your concrete lampost is here right enough, in the middle of nowhere. Looks as if there was something here judging by the wall in the background

Image

You can see there has been a wide opening just in front of the lampost...

Image

Whereas further down it looks like a more close-sized one......

Image

And another one still complete with front steps.....

Image

Looks like there was something else here until recently too, you can still smell the burnt wood....

Image

Obviously burning things is a favourite pastime round here......

This very distant view taken in the early 1960's shows a large slag heap around that spot.

Here are a couple of shots from the remains of the prefab neighbour hood at the corner on Aitkinhead road and prospecthill road.

You can just about work out where the houses were by the spaces in the hedges where the gates were.
Strangely, all the kerb stones have been lifted.

Great pics :D I wonder if there are any about online from when the prefabs were still standing. Can you remember when they pulled them down or why? I seem to remember the residents being up in arms when the decision was announced.

It's not as if they were an eyesore (no more than many other newer buidings in the city) and a lot of them had nice wee gardens and were well kept.

Is that last picture from just off Kilmarnock Road, heading into Newlands?

Theres also a road which stretched from the top of Birgidale Rd in Castlemilk to the village of Carmunnock, but has now been blocked off at the Castlemilk end. I've no idea if any posts exist on this however, or if it was anything more than a farm track.

It's not Newlands, it's Auldhouse. That's Mossgeil Rd you can see down the wee lane! I live in the 'orrible broon flats at the top of the hill to the right. Great views over Glasgow from the Hillpark shops if anyone is interested.
