It's sad when you look back at these old threads and most of the pics are dead :(
Anyway I don't think this has been posted before.

Well I'm glad I reminded you, as per usual R.. what a collection!

On another note, I sometimes see newbies (I still count myself as one) apologising for resurrecting an old thread, in my view it's the opposite - bring back some of the old threads and by all means add to them and bring them up to date and to the attention of others.

Here's a few scans of the Tait Building from my copy of the book Lost Buildings, by Jonathan Glancey. "Here was a glimpse into the future" he writes.

Glancey concludes "Tait's tower was really nothing more than a glorified lift-shaft offering spectacular views accross Glasgow and the Clyde Valley, so its life could never be guaranteed, although the Eiffel Tower in Paris is much the same thing and has endured since 1889 and remains one of the world's most powerful tourist attractions."

Its a shame the tower was flattened, but understandable.

the people in the photos enjoying themselves, sadly not to know what lay around the corner...

They certainly filled that site up.

By coincidence, I found this today - a PDF of photos from the 'Scottish Oils and Shell-Mex Limited Information Centre and Cinema', which'll be down there somewhere in that photo.
