The discussion re William Street has me intrigued. I had a Great Grandmother who lived in William Street in the late 1950's and another Granny who lived on the corner of Crimea Street and Carrick Street in Anderston at the same time.

My granny in Anderston used to take me and my older brother to Mass at St Patrick's Churchin North Street when we stayed with her, and sometimes we used to walk up past my Great Grandmother's place in William Street to get there !

I'm sure William Street, at its western end, connected with North Street.

Also, from the back window of my Great Grandmother's place, we could watch trams (and even single-deckers) travelling along St Vincent's Place and onto St Vincent's Street or up, what I think was Elmbank Street.
,
Question: Did Elmbank Street lead up to St Georges Cross or was that intersection further along St Vincent's Street ?

Is part of it still visible from the railway line? I noticed yesterday an old building at the lineside between Scotstounhill and Garscadden, but not sure what it is as ive never seen it before, just caught a glimpse of it as the train sped thru on the way to Dalmuir.

I think I know which building your referring to Tobester, although if it's the one I'm thinking of, it would be on your left hand side as you travel between Yoker and Garscadden Station, just before the Hawick Street overbridge at the west end of Yoker Train Depot.

It's a small pump house I found the info here online, and I'm sure I have more info and possibly a photo somewhere on my old PC which I'll look out sometime soon

It may well have been connected with the Old Yoker Distillery which stood on the land now occupied by the Scottish Power Depot, it's not as far as I know linked to the Yoker Burn which is buried below the railway about 50/ 60 yards to the west of the building your mention in your post.

According to The Glasgow Story

Drumchapel Public School was built in 1905 to a design demonstrating ideal school architecture which had been exhibited at Glasgow's International Exhibition in 1901. It became Drumchapel Primary School in 1949 and in 1964 it was re-purposed to become Drumchapel School for Mentally Handicapped Children. It had become the Thomas Fortune Work Centre by 1990

The Thomas Fortune Centre for adults with learning difficulties is now in Drumry Road. What is the building now used for.

BTW in 1905 and in 2008 the building was not, nor is Drumchapel School for Mentally Handicapped Children so could you amend your post.

Thought I'd put a couple more Firhill ones up, originals from the Mitchell.

They're Thistle supporters. They've always got money.

That is some drape coat in the foreground. And the padded shoulders would shame Joan Collins in Dynasty.

A picture of the same shop in its heyday has been commented on here before:
ImageThats an interesting photo as it would make a good past present because they look like the recent one was taken in almost the same position.

If you look at the close mouth it looks like they've still got the original tiles on the wall and the road if you lookwhere the tar is wearing away it looks like that could be where the tram lines were.
