Elderpark, I knew it very well. I spent a lot of very happy 'periods ' there learning woodworking while attending Govan High. What a lark it was walking from the "High " over to the Elderpark school... how did they ever manage to get us to move from one school to the other in the middle of the day! Loved the whole thing! Elderpark!... wow, how that brings back some wonderful memories, the whole world was ours, and we didn't know it!

I've been on friends reunited and it has great pictures of schools I went to (Stonelaw High and Calderwood Primary) if anyone is interested. I've taken pictures of Calderwood during demolision for rebuild and I'll post them later.
Cheers all

Woodacre was my Nursery School when I was growing up living in Darnley Hospital.
I'll be sorry to see it go. :(

I also hear my Primary School, Leithland Primary is on the "To Go" list also.
Are all these Style Schools to go or just ones of a certain age?

I agree with you about it being an eye-sore but for me it is more about how memories that go with the buildings disappear along with it, mostly of my childhood growing up in the Pollok/Nitshill/Darnley/Arden areas of Glasgow.

Since I moved away a lot of the places I knew are gone Pollok Centre/Pollok Library/Two of my houses as well as my birth home in Darnley Hospital have been replaced now both my nursery and primary school are to go too.

I can't help but feeling a little downtrodden as it feels like every time I go back something else has gone. :(

Anyway, Times change I'm a big boy I can deal with it.

A lot is changing in the Pollok area.

There was some discussion on another threat about this issue.

I believe Leithland like other schools either required lots of money to be spent on it to bring it up to a proper standard or the roll for the school had declined to the extent that it was no longer viable.

Woodacre Nursery will close when the new school on the site of St Bernard's opens.

There was a discussion about getting a group of those HG members interested in participating in a project to photograph those schools currently planned for closure. I think Fos was trying to get something going but didn't get many responses.

We need to hurry if we are to retain some of the images that will help those like you Alex who have memories of a place or building retain some of their memories.

As for the modern buidings. From what I have heard the parents and children associated with the new schools appear to be very pleased with the improved facilities.
