Thanks to Gary for plugging my page of photos of the boxes further up the thread!
On the subject of police boxes, I came across a nice wee history of them here:
http://www.eee.strath.ac.uk/r.w.stewart/boxes.pdf
It mentions a further 2 boxes still in private ownership, and one held by Strathclyde Uni that they were planning on installing somewhere on campus. This was a couple of years ago however, and I don't know if they still plan on doing this or not.
Nice to see the Byres Rd one getting a new lick of paint though- it was getting very tatty. I'm unclear who actually owns the boxes now.
As for the planning application, this was to turn the box near the Cathedral into a coffee kiosk called 'Coppuchino'.
Grounds for objecting to the planning application on the name alone!
The plans showed that when the kiosk was open, it would effectively have the door on the right hand side open, with a tiny counter. Doesn't look like it would be much fun to work in!
