Kelvingrove Bandstand

Great night at the Bluebells / Alison Moyet gig last night.

Good points
Good performances (particularly from Alison Moyet)
Lovely weather
Good atmosphere
Good view of stage
Acoustics OK for an outside venue

Not so good points
Commonwealth security barriers and parking restrictions still in place = long walk to and from venue.
Concrete seats = sore numb bum and they were not well sealed leaving everyone with white chalky marks on clothes. (Take a cushion)
Only drinks available were Magners or cans of Coke for drivers/non drinkers (Had to buy pre pay vouchers on entry to bandstand for drinks)
Toilets = Only go if its an emergency (worse than festival facilities, manky and smelly)

Worthy of mention
Over zealous security guard tried to stop a small section of audience having the audacity to enjoy themselves and have a wee boogie.
Audience reacted in typical Glaswegian "I am Sparticus" style, stood up in unison and started to dance in an act of solidarity. (You had to be there but it was funny to see the reaction of the security staff at this act of anarchy by middle aged, middle class masses.
The jobs worths beat a swift retreat.

Overall review of venue
Shows promise but must try harder to become a great venue.

Spot on about the seating. We went to the showing of Gregory's girl and had numb bum about 20 minutes in and white arse for the journey home.

I went to the free festivals in years 1971-72, and remember seeing the likes of Eric Cuthbertson, Up, and Northwind (the original Northwind). I took some photos but they're long gone, and frustratingly I can't find the negs.

The only surviving photo, from 1971:-

Found it, again:-
