Medical products firm Frank Sammeroff wound up

A Glasgow medical products firm has gone into liquidation with the loss of 43 jobs in Scotland and 70 in Shanghai.

Frank Sammeroff is based in the Nitshill area of the city and specialises in making first aid kits and surgical dressings.

How can you foul up a medial supplies company?
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Hello to all who gather here. I found this site a couple of days ago and have discovered so many interesting things about the place that I spent my first nineteen years of life. I live in Fremantle WA and been in Oz for most of my adult life but oh how I miss my auld toon some days. As they say you can take the girl out of Glasgow but you can't take Glasgow out of the girl. I lived in Priesthill Road adjacent to the first Presbyterian Church and where I married in 1962. I had a great childhood growing up there with so much open space and great pals too of course. I went to Gowanbank until 1956 and then Shawlands for the next three years. I m hoping I may meet up with some of my pals from those days. What a great site and look forward to browsing on a regular basis.
Ara best

Re Methane's story about his uncle and the boiler house, as it was called. Very interesting, thanks for that. We lived in the close next door to the boiler house on Glentyan Drive.
There was a high wall separating our back green from the boiler house ground. We would climb the wall, see who could run the fastest along it or have hopping competitions along it (can't believe that now !)
Anyway we would have sometimes have conversations with the man who ran it (who might have been your Uncle Pat, Methane) I might be wrong about this........long time...........but was he Irish ?
Also, on the side of our backgreen and backing on to the boiler house, was a large old house with a big overgrown garden. We would climb on the wall and pinch the redcurrants and blackcurrants. No inhabitants of this house were ever seen, but there was a dog named Ricky and for this reason, the house was known as Ricky's house. We thought it a very mysterious house, the sort of place a mysterious heroine might be imprisoned. This house fronted on to Glenlora Drive and was one of a few old houses left in what was now Craigbank. The local doctor Dr Wattsman had a house there and in another large house was a priest (or priests) and housekeepers. There was an Irish gardener. (actually Methane, I might be confusing him with your uncle, tho I definitely remember conversations at the boiler house).
Anyway, your post brought back a lot of memories so thanks again

Hi All. I'm Mark from New Zealand, new to the list, & I'm hoping someone will be able to answer a query.
I noticed the picture of the damaged Hurlet House on Barrhead Rd. Was wondering if anyone can identify this building which, if I've got it right, sits next-door.

This building was used until very recently as the parks dept work depot for houshillwood, don't know what it was originally but I know my father worked there in the 1950s for the parks dept

I suspect it may have formerly been called FASKIN, but struggling to make headway. My 5th great-Grandfather Andrew Thomson, a Glasgow merchant banker, is recorded both as "of Faskine", and "of Faskin." Family documents mentioning Faskin all place the property "in Glasgow" but as yet I've been unable to verify the location. Visited both this property, & Faskine in Airdrie, while visiting beautiful Glasgow in October. 'Faskin' has been further used as a property name by descendants in England, Australia, Canada, and by my ancestors here in New Zealand.

My late friend Colin Keith used to stay in this house. His father worked for the parks department.

Hi all,

I know I’m late to the party but I’ve been really enjoying reading through this post after moving to the area in December 2017.

I was wondering if anyone knows any information about the house opposite The Hurlet Carvery (RIP, lets hope for a Paesano) on the other side of the Dual Carriageway in Hurlet Road? Any old photos or info would be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

JRR
