Help!

Postby crusty_bint » Thu Oct 13, 2005 8:05 pm

I'm trying to find any old images of or containing a bus stop... not just you average shag-behind-the-bins-stop you get these days, but an nice old cast iron type. I've looked through Argyle St, Buchannan St, High St, Hope St, Union St, and Sauchiehall St on the Virtual Mitchell but I'm not having much luck!

Can anyone help? Preferably a pic you can see the actual sign in (I've seen a few that are dead on and all you see is a pole). I'll buy whoever finds one a pint or I'll send you a gift (which wil probably be something of the office supplies variety  ::): )

Cheers,

Crusty :D

I suppose I really should have said bus or tram stop, as what I'm after will more than likely be in the form of the former.

Cheers tho guys, appreciate it!

Dalmuir West Terminus 1962

I wish that I had a pound for every time I stood in that very shelter!

Here's a few bus stops 'off the pole' displayed the Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, Lathalmond.
I'd give my left nut to have a few like these in my collection 8O

Two from G.C.T. Glasgow Corporation Transport, (and another from a bit further afield).

A nice varied selection, (note the B.O.C. 'Bourgh of Clydebank' stop).

Ok, not exactly 'Street Furniture', but on a transport theme, I uncovered these while stripping a 1967 Glasgow bus. (sorry for the rough quality, it was a bit dusty, plus i'm a crap photographer :( ).

Remember the cord ?

Only on the lower deck in these days of course, you could still puff away upstairs.

'Leyland' marked pedals.

Nae luck... walked the length of Cambuslang and thought the cars above had been trashed in the rebuilding they're into just now, then realised the way I'd arrived meant I'd missed Tabernacle Lane, so had to trundle all the way back. Still, at least I found them there, still safe.

They're not above above a little humour in their street decoration, and the kids seem to love this arrangement in front of the shops. Yep, it really is all made of steel and bolted down:

Loads still about the city -A-
and a few unusual ones right in front of folks eyes

When they get removed do they go to land fill? I'd love to buy one but how would you go about doing this?
