I'm sure the murderer turned out to be a railway employee too.

Where did you access the clipping Socceroo?

Schiehallion, i got the clipping from the Scotsman online digital archive which is kind of expensive to use ranging from 7 quid odds a day to over 150 for the year.

I did not pay for it as such (other than beer token) as friend of mine who is a bit of a writer gave me a shot of his password.

There is also ways and means of drawing down some of the Newsquest / Herald and Times stuff which are held in several private archives online.

It isn't half dear. I'll wait until they scan 1950 to the 1980's - it's football stuff I'm after.

Evening Times

Bid to give historic train station new lease of life

A HISTORIC disused station in the South Side of Glasgow is on track for a life-saving makeover.

Maxwell Park Station is still a stopping point for trains to and from the city, but the station building has been out of use for more than 20 years.

It sits on an island platform with a railway line at either side and is reached by bridges from Fotheringay Road and Terregles Avenue.

They meet at the first floor of the building, allowing passengers to walk down steps to the platforms.

Does anyone know what happened to the Pollokshaws East station building above?
Demolished? Went on fire? David Copperfield magic trick?
Oh, and when?

Oh dear, as per Darrel bellow, they didn't really improve that one did they. Seems to be a fairly random strategy of erasing interesting station buildings.

Fears for future of six Glasgow train stations

NEW fears have emerged for the future of a rail line serving some of Glasgow's most deprived communities.

No comment from firebrand Councillor Billy McAllister, Depute leader of the SNP in Glasgow City Council and member for the Canal ward which the Maryhill line serves. One would have thought that even on a personal level he would like Maryhill Road to have fewer vehicles and less chance of accidents.

This is being dismissed as scaremongering to try and twist the SNPs arm for electrification of the route on other sites. The line cannot and will not be closed, as it carries the West Highland services, both passenger and freight, the only unique bit is the Anniesland branch.

The fact the line 'cannot be closed' offers no guarantees for the stations though.

According to the Evening Times "Today Nicola Sturgeon vowed the stations would not close".

Is that the same sort of promise that was made about GARL?

The line cant close as its used for the west highland and freight, but cast your mind back a year....they were closing all the stations bar summerston and possilpark (i think it was). I think its SPT trying to get money out of TS by scaremongering....yes the line is dead at night and quiet daytime but busy during peak hours, some trains you cant get out the rear coach. Im taking once the e&g is electrified theyll (at some point) do this
