My Kitten, I think posted a question about it some time back and I have now seen several pic of the fire station but although it is definatley the same building it seems further along the road than today strange!

Here it is photographed from my window at 142 Shawbridge St when I lived there 20 years ago.

Pollokshaws

Postby IanC » Mon Jun 05, 2006 10:28 pm

Are you all aware that there is now a web site dedicated to Pollokshaws at http://www.pollokshaws.org.uk the content of which was provided by the Pollokshaws Heritage Group. Well worth a look. Specifically the "Gallery" page which has two picture galleries showing the Bank building in Greenview Street. The first is in b&w and shows the wellgreen (pic 2) more than the building but the second gallery (pic's 2 & 3) show the Bank building in the early sixties and the old fire station which was built around the second world war. ::):

Somewhere elso worth a look for the answer to your interest in this building would be the Pollokshaws Library which is featuring some pictures and comments by a local historian, George Rountree. He would be able to tell you what the building was originally used for as he has lived in the vacinity for some almost 70 years.

it looks like the preparations for the demolition of the four pollokshaws tower blocks is making some real progress at last . the first block due for demolition, 12 riverford road now has only five flats still occupied, and just a few days ago i saw a works van with demolitions written on the side in the car park ,maybe they are already studying the building in preparation for it,s destruction?

There are only two families left in it. It'll be a good while yet.
