Well I know we already have a couple of GE threads knocking about but i thought it might be nice if we could collect any links to overlays or places of interest in one place.

To get the ball rolling a couple of overlays i have created are located

The overlays are:
Glasgow's M8 Construction Arial Photo 1969 (82KB)
Glasgow Arial Photograph Late 80s/Early 90s (2MB)

I think i have managed to line up the pics fairly well, it's fascinating to see what has changed and what remains the same between the current Google earth and the older pics.

So if anyone else has some interesting overlays they want to share then share away

Edit: Having trouble getting this linking thing to work. The M8 construction overlay is now available at the following googleearthhacks.co. The 90s Glasgow one is there too but awaiting approval.

For anyone with the GPS bug, http://www.motionbased.com/index.jsp allows you to upload your track logs directly from your GPS, or a saved log file, into an their site, and have them display overlaid on Google Earth.

There are a number of other toys you can play with once you've uploaded your tracks, one being the ability to view an animation of your progress along the track at various speeds.

Uploaded tracks are also shared on the site for others to see.

You do need to install their agent to handle the transfer and Adobe SVG viewer for some of the advanced features. WindowsXP/2000 upwards only too.

Cerainly gives a better idea of what was lost in the making of the motorway. I wonder if they'd do it the same way now? Can you imagine the protests!

OK - this is no doubt my own stupid fault - but I now can't get rid of the overlay thing. In other words, every time I go into Google Earth, central Glasgow is stuck in a monochrome 1960s time warp. Will I have to install it again? Any advice gratefully received........

There will be a check box in one of the toolboxes at the left of your screen that will hide the overlay if you uncheck it

Just letting you know, there is a new version of Google Earth out, most of the buildings in US cities are in photo quality 3D! This software is absolutely amazing!

i downloaded the files, what do i use to open them up?

Open google earth and download it from there!

Click help >> click Check for updates online >> then click run

Funny how all the reported sightings on this Google offering seem to be concentrated in one particular place.
