They are renovating the Barrachnie Inn just now, but several people I have spoken to just don't like the colour scheme that has been used on the outside of the building. The stonework surrounds of the windows have been painted yellow, whereas the stonework on the rest of the whole building is cream. I think there is a clash of colours there. ...Otherwise, the Barrachnie Inn is a fine looking building. It always has been. Its main problem is pigeons. ...They tried one of those fake eagle owls about five years ago, positioning it prominently on the chimney stack. It looked very attractive too - if you like ornaments. After a few weeks, though, I saw a pigeon sitting on the owl's head, and the others weren't bothered either.

There's a few forgotten bars in this feature filmed during the barbers' strike of 1973.

This is the only shot outside. Absolutely no clues at all! Any suggestions? I was trying to see through the windows from the indoor shots too, but no clue either!

My guess was Eglinton St just south of the river but I couldn't name the pubs.
I hear the people sing.

Don't know if the skyline in the window can be identified?

Southside - possibly. I'm sure someone will recognise the pub with the sawn-off building in the background! :D

However, I'm pretty sure that the doorway from where they emerge right at the end is the Buchanan Street entrance to the old George Hotel. The circles and the triangles on the wood are the giveaway.

Thanks Vinny, you obviously keep your eyes open. I've passed that a corner at least every month of my adult existence.

Looks like the Waterloo Bar? The windows and panelling certainly match up, anyone know when the building housing the pawnbroker on the opposite corner on the south side of Argyle Street was built?

I think that is a top quality shout! Window second in from left has the same extractor fan arrangement. :)

It wasn't actually that hard to find. I took a guess that if the other part was in the city centre so would the rest of it. So working from that there aren't that many junctions that don't run straight through, there are only the few at that end of Argyle Street that have a slight kick as you head to the south. It's amazing what you can do with indigestion, alcohol and bugger all you fancy on TV!

He he! I work in Washington Street, so I should have got that one! I knew it was familiar, but just could not work it out. I blame it on the building behind the pawnbrokers which is no longer there! ;)

A mate of mine used to work in the George. I'll see if he can identify what parts of that video are inside that building.

Oh, and cracking composite, Beneld! :D

heres the other. To me it looks like the newer circles/triangles are replacements mimicking the old design. The circle size is different as well as height . Unless they were tiny bouncers.
