That strikes me as an odd place to open a record shop, though there used to be one many years ago further up the road towards Shawlands near Craig MacMartins cycles.

Not such an odd location, lots of young hipsters invading the South Side these days. We need a record store, haven't had one since the much missed Salvation Sounds

LP Records has opened in Park Rd. Went in today and enjoyed a quick browse in a very light and airy shop, leaving with a Fats Domino LP and half a dozen 45s - all reasonably priced.
Worth a visit.

'Found record shops of Glasgow', shurely. Looks like an intriguing wee place.

Yes, I popped in as well, some nice vinyl there including three copies of Todd Rungren's Runt, an album I haven't seen in years. I bagged a Kevin Coyne album.

Earlier threads talked about Silverdales on Argyle Street (Art Galleries end of the street) I wonder if anyone can remember one of the girls who worked there, must have been 1974 or 1975 . I think her name was Sarah, she also played bass guitar in a band, a sort of semi-pro covers band.
Any people out there with long memories?

It's open but it's a s/h emporium with vinyl, books and such.

I remember as a boy in the nineteen-fifties going to a record shop opposite the Empire Theatre. I think it was called Forbes and was in a downstairs basement. There were booths for listening to records which were all 78 r.p.m. I remember my dad buying Al Jolson records.

Are these records sleeves for sale?
I'd like to buy one!

dimairt wrote:Playing the oldies today and found these. Record shops used to stamp the sleeves with the prices and many had distinctive bags for your weekly vinyl fix. I'm sure I've got a bag from Gloria's as well as a few others from town.
Note the name on the 78 sleeve: Lewis's Royal Polytechnic. A few years later it had become the more prosaic Lewis's and the price had gone up.

Otherside is great

....but to rewind back to the beginnings of this thread.....the record shop in the Savoy Centre (A1 Sounds) was not affiliated with the record shop on Renfield Street (A-One). I remember the similar names but also they had different logos and bags, the former red, the latter green. Besides, they were around at the same time, so it wasn't a case of one expanding and moving to another location as previously suggested.

A-One was then later absorbed into The Chain With No Name which was operated via Rough Trade and lost it's name. Many of the TCWNM shops were later to be taken over by Fopp.

I don't know if Kushi on Union Street was ever mentioned....but I only trawled the first 6 pages before I got bored and moved on to p.36 :)

And at one point around 1997-2001 there were two or three record shops in that stretch between Hillhead Street and Cecil Street.

I'm thinking Sounds was the store at bottom of renfield st. Late 70s early 80s? Punk, new wave. Heard loads of new stuff there first.

Nope, closed a couple of years ago, now home to LP Records as seen earlier in the thread.
