You'll be pleased to hear that it will become a coffee shop/deli as there seems to be a severe shortage of them in the West End at the moment.
Where am I going to find, for example, Dinah Washington singing 'Big Long Sliding Thing' now. I knew I'd get it at Lost in Music and I knew that the guy behing the counter would know the song.

that's them gone now, bit sad. Image

I recommend Mixed Up records in Otago Lane. Lost Chord is a bit dodgy... (they do seem to have rather a lot of magazines for jazz enthusiasts, I mean)
Chess, like love, is infectious at any age.

When we lived in 'The Drum' during the late 1950's Dad, a radio nut, not only built little crystal radios but also converted our Gramophone so that it played sound through our normal radio.

Our early purchases were on the Embassy label, bought from the Woolworth's store which, from memory, was in Renfrew Street, where Dad could then board either an Alexander's bus or a Corpy number 20 bus for home.

The first few records he bought were Perry Como singing 'Catch A Falling Star', Slim Dusty singing 'A Pub With No Beer' and Cliff Richard singing 'Living Doll'.

Now, that's buying records !

There are some semi official CDs of Embassy records floating about somewhere and some of the original records are collectible. Which is not to say they are worth anything much. i have a version on Embassy of a Who tune which I could pass off as a long lost American sixties garage band..

Must be early sixties, the Esquire shirt shop and the barbers were there later on.

Hey pop pickers, just a thought but whilst perusing a stack of 78's here in Stirling I cam accross a sleve for a long lost shop in Stirling,

Are there glasgow examples of the shop 'own brand' record sleve and would they help fill in the blanks of the early record shops?

Mr Sam

If it's the same place I'm thinking of then it was Rebel Records. The Strathclyde Programme Shop was in the same tenement building (now demolished) above it. I used to spend many a lunch hour in these two shops in the early '90s - I remember buying Spacemen 3 and Loop LPs in Rebel Records (they also sold new stuff) as well as second-hand Broons and Oor Wullie books
