This thread has captured my attention for the last couple of hours... I always wondered about the strange hatches and vents.. I have seen in the little building at buchanan galleries, while walking past it.. I figured it was just a service lift.. I'm totally hooked now, I need to find out more...

This is the south tunnel section under construction from Dial House viewing south down Bishop Street toward the Clyde. It drops to 11m depth just south of Bishop Lane so this would be the only cut & cover section in the tunnel network with the possible exception of the short Pitt Street tunnel. The north sections from Dial House to Cathedral Street are 30m depth.

Section of diagram that shows at least part of the Pitt Street tunnel was constructed by the cut and cover method or trenching down from the surface as described on the drawing

Apologies for regurgitating an old thread.

I haven't been on here for some time, and my interest in this tunnel has been rekindled, especially with new photographs and information. I plan to plot the tunnel path on Google Earth as accurately as i can, using the info on HG (Manholes covers / Fences etc) and my local knowledge, to complete this rather secretive historical "jigsaw", then making that .KMZ file available for others to view / edit.

I've attached what I've done so far, not much, so please feel free to make this a collective effort. :)

Thanks
