Step for a hint to walk the route of the Telephone House Pitt Street tunnel

The Glasgow BT tunnel network have distinctive emergency escape hatch manholes. These can be identified by the small metal square 8” x 6” embedded on the covers

Here’s the first one outside Telephone House at Pitt Street/Bishop Lane

The next one is located 10m north of 95 Pitt Street. This can be quite hard to locate during the day due to parked cars

Next one is at the pedestrian crossing Pitt Street/Bothwell Street

Here’s the last one where the tunnel ends at Pitt Street/St Vincent Street

There’s another two hatches at Bishop Street/Bishop Lane, these are connected to the Dial House south tunnel that runs to Washington Street

Security and maintenance for the Glasgow, Edinburgh and Newcastle tunnels are provided by SPIE Mathew Hall

get the idea

Hi Barcelomond - I think the low brick walls in your photos are actually supports for the old heating boilers

Talk to it nicely. Tell it there's nothing to be alarmed about. Tell it everything is going to be fine. Then, when it's not looking, sneak in and have a look.
I hear the people sing.

Sound advice indeed.

Great pics (as usual) Toomse.

I'm assuming thats the date they were taken, in the bottom RHC?

Also the most recent one is number 188.
That means there's at least another 186 out there somewhere.

thanks purplepantman - there's 240 in total!

this is stamped on the back of the pics with varying dates

I also have a collection of slides in my possession but I'd need one of those devices that converts them to digital images
